Metrolinx Richmond Hill Corridor Track Maintenance

Metrolinx has advised:

As part of regular maintenance on our corridors, we are replacing old track ties (wooden planks between the rails) along the Richmond Hill corridor between the Queen Street East Bridge in Toronto to John Street in Markham. This work started on Tuesday, July 19 at the southernmost end of the corridor. This work is currently located near Pottery Road in the Don Valley, moving north until late August.

Tracks must be taken out of service to complete this work and as a result this work can only be carried out during off-peak times, when there is less train traffic. Work is scheduled to take place overnight from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.

There will be some noise and vibration associated with the work. The track will need to be removed in order to lift up the rail ties. Once the ties are lifted, ballast (gravel used to form the bed of a railroad track) will need to be replaced and the tracks lifted back in place. We anticipate completing up to 3km of work per night and don’t expect the work to last in any one area for a long duration. We will ensure any lights are directed away from homes when possible.
