New City of Toronto Waste Reduction Community Grants Program: Accepting Applications

Applications now being accepted for new City of Toronto Waste Reduction Community Grants Program

The City of Toronto is now accepting applications for its new Waste Reduction Community Grants Program. Grants of up to $25,000 are available to support innovative community-based projects that reduce residential waste and increase participation in the City’s waste diversion programs.

The goals of Toronto’s Long Term Waste Management Strategy include working with community partners to support grassroots initiatives that reduce waste, increase public engagement and facilitate working together to divert waste from landfill. Waste Reduction Community Grants provide financial assistance to community and resident groups with innovative ideas to reduce waste. The grants support Toronto’s goals of moving toward zero waste and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Initiatives eligible for funding include those that promote waste reduction and reuse, increase waste education and engagement, and align with the City’s Long Term Waste Management Strategy. Examples include reuse, repair, swapping and/or sharing initiatives. A priority will be placed on investing in actions associated with apartment buildings and condominiums, multilingual communities and equity-seeking groups.

Groups eligible to apply for funding include resident, tenant and neighbourhood associations, service clubs, community organizations, registered charitable organizations, environmental organizations, school groups, clubs and councils. The deadline to submit an expression of interest is February 23.
